Of Forrest Gump & Down on the Farm

Has anyone wondered why most film that leaves you crying buckets is regarded as a good film and then continues to receive the prestigious Academy Award. Strange and ridiculous. I looked up at the last 2 dozen films that were awarded the prestigious Academy Award and reckons that 16 out of 24 is outright depressing. It messes with your emotion and tempts the eyes to well up. Go ahead, wiki 'Academy Award Films' and see the list of winning films for yourself. Make sure you have a box of Kleenex within reach. Just in case you get emotional.

An aunt from Canada came visiting together with me cousin, Stefanie. The last I saw her was probably 5 years ago This sweet little cousin of mine has finally morph into a beautiful young lady. No more that naive little girl from Canada.

While travelling towards Janda Baik to the beat of U2, we peppered our conversation from education to family matters with teases and sarcasm. Me cousin suddenly said, "My momma always said, Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Now that brought to mind  the most ridiculous film of the century; Forrest Gump. What sort of script is that? Anyone who holds a box of chocolate, knows what is in there. In fact, we pick the chocolate that we fancy. Clue: every box comes with pictures and description of its content. And the mother of all contradiction is found where Gump gave away his medal to Jenny. When Jenny refused, Gump when on to say, "But I got it just by doing what you told me to do." Jogging my memory, I am quite sure that before Gump headed towards Vietnam, it was Jenny who said, "Promise me something. Whatever happens, don't try to be brave. Just run. Just run away." Well of course, she accepted it. I'm saying nothing more.

Back to our journey, a family friend owns a place in Janda Baik and has turned a piece of land next to his property into a farm. I must say I quite like his place. Cool, serene, nature, fresh air and at times it smells like ……… errr……………a farm. At times we get glimpses of wild pigs, deer, our close cousins; monkeys, and slow morris rummaging through the jungles to the rhythm of chirping birds and insects.

Fruit of the Passion
Nevertheless, a perfect spot to unwind. Looking at the farm, it makes one think; a bare piece of land with the help of a hoe and shovel resulted in a very productive plot indeed. I don't mind a pig locked up somewhere about the farm. A whole year supply of bacon, ham and sausages. No need for the supermarket.

And did I mention about them chickens???
